Microgynon 30

Microgynon 30 contains two female hormones (ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel) that prevent your ovaries from releasing an egg and causes the fluid in your cervix to become thicker. When this happens, it’s difficult for sperm to reach the egg or to implant itself into the womb lining. When taken as instructed, Microgynon 30 is 99% effective at protecting against pregnancy.

How to take Microgynon 30

The best time to take Microgynon 30 is on the first day of your period, which will give you immediate contraceptive protection. The standard way of taking this pill is to take 1 pill daily (at the same time) for 21 days. Once the strip has been finished, you should take a 7 day break from the pills. Some women have a period during this time, after which, the next strip should be started on the same day of the week it was started previously.

Another method of taking Microgynon 30 is by extended use (1 pill daily for 9 weeks, followed by no pill for 4 to 7 days), or continuous use (daily pill every day with no breaks). To find out the best method for you, discuss with your prescribing doctor.
