Online NHS repeat prescription service frequently asked questions

  • How can I register to receive my repeat prescriptions online?

Firstly, you’ll need to download the LloydsDirect app on iOS or Android, or sign-up at LloydsDirect by LloydsPharmacy. If you’re over the age of 18, it’s simple to receive your repeat prescription online through LloydsDirect by LloydsPharmacy.

During the sign-up process you’ll be able to create an account, add your GP surgery and set a delivery address. You can then add the repeat prescription medication you need so that LloydsDirect can contact your GP on your behalf to start ordering your medication. Through the LloydsDirect repeat prescription service you can continue to benefit from free reminders and delivery.

  • Does this prescription service cost anything?

Our LloydsDirect by LloydsPharmacy NHS online repeat prescription service is free including delivery, although you will have to pay for your NHS prescription medicines, unless you are NHS exempt. Read our guide for more information including up-to-date NHS exemptions and prescription costs.

  • How long does it take to receive my medication?

It’s best to place your request for your repeat prescription 5-10 days before you need your medication to arrive. But don’t worry, you can use the app to set helpful reminders. This allows time for your GP to authorise the prescription(s), our pharmacy team to dispense your medication and Royal Mail to deliver your prescription.

We will send your prescription request to your GP. Once we’ve received your prescription, it can take several working days for us to dispense and then dispatch your medication. Deliveries will usually be made to your chosen address within 2-3 days.

  • Do I need to be in for my delivery?

We aim to fit your combined amount of medicines in letterbox friendly parcels, but this is not always possible. You may need to be in to receive your delivery, but this depends on how big or small your medicine is.

If your medication will not fit through your letterbox, Royal Mail will let you know how you can rearrange delivery or collection. Other delivery options are available. You can choose to collect from your nearest LloydsPharmacy or select one of 10,500 other collection points in England.

  • How much does prescription delivery service cost?

NHS repeat prescription medicines are delivered to your chosen UK address free via the Royal Mail 48-hour service. We can deliver to any address in the UK – your home, work, to your carer or neighbour.

  • Is this service available outside England?

We use the NHS England Electronic Prescription Service to receive your prescription(s) electronically from your GP. Therefore, this service is not available in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands or Isle of Man.

  • Can I use the NHS prescription delivery service if I don’t pay for prescriptions?

Yes, this service is available if you have a repeat NHS prescription, if you’re NHS exempt, or if you have to pay for your prescription items. Read our guide for more information including up-to-date NHS exemptions and prescription costs.

  • Can more than one family member use the same account?

Yes, LloydsDirect offers family medication management. Take away the stress of managing your family's medicine by simply adding family members of any age to your account.

  • What is the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)?

The Electronic Prescription Service is an NHS service that allows your GP to electronically send your repeat prescription(s) directly to your chosen pharmacy.

EPS also allows you to nominate LloydsDirect by LloydsPharmacy as your online pharmacy so there’s no need to visit your local pharmacy or GP to collect a repeat prescription.

  • Where is my prescription dispensed from and who dispenses it?

If you have nominated LloydsDirect by LloydsPharmacy to dispense your one-off NHS or repeat NHS prescriptions, we are based at Unit 1 Westpoint Trading Estate, Alliance Road, Acton, W3 0RA (“LloydsDirect”). LloydsDirect by LloydsPharmacy is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as Metabolic Healthcare Ltd under registration number 9011008. The superintendent pharmacist is Shamir Shah.

  • Can I order controlled drugs or medication that needs to be stored in a fridge?
