How does the test work?

When your test kit arrives you’ll find a swab which you can use to collect a sample from your mouth and nose. Your sample is sent to our partner lab with prepaid postage and packing, where it will be tested for signs of the virus.

If the result is positive, the test will indicate you currently have COVID-19.

Who can use the test?

You can use a COVID-19 at-home swab test if:

  • You think you have COVID-19
  • You're an adult aged 18 and over only
  • You're ordering the test kit for yourself

When will I get my results?

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need a COVID-19 swab test?

    If you have symptoms of COVID-19 (a high temperature, new continuous cough or loss/change to your sense of taste and/or smell) you might want to get tested for the virus. The same goes for you if you’ve been in contact with someone who’s got the virus or has symptoms. You don’t have to have symptoms yourself to get a test. 

  • Are your COVID-19 sampling kits fully regulated?

    Yes. Our sampling kits include are CE-marked which means they conform to European standards for medical testing. The Roche antibody tests are legal to supply in the UK. Plus, the Doctors Laboratory (TDL) provides UK-accredited medical services globally.

  • Can I get a downloadable copy of my results?

    Once your results are ready you can view and download your results from the ‘Documents’ section of your Patient Record.

    Advice for travellers
    Our LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor service is suitable for travellers who have returned from overseas. It will determine whether or not you currently have the virus. It may help in shortening the time you have to quarantine on your return.

    We do not recommend you use our LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor service for outbound travel purposes. We cannot guarantee you will receive your results within 72 hours. The downloadable copy of your results does not include personal information such as your passport number.

  • How does this COVID-19 test work?

  • How do I take the COVID-19 swab test?

    You will need to insert the swab into your mouth and nose, carefully following the instructions we’ve provided in your test kit. Place your sample into the packaging provided and send it back to our partner lab using the prepaid postage that comes with your kit. 

    Your sample can only be posted in Royal Mail priority post boxes in the UK. This makes sure your sample will be handled with care and get to our partner lab as a priority. Find out more about priority post boxes and where your local one is.
