How does VIRALEZE™ Barrier Nasal Spray work?
expand_moreYour nasal cavity is the primary site where cold/respiratory virus infection becomes established. VIRALEZE™ contains astodrimer sodium (SPL7013) which has been shown in laboratory to physically trap cold/respiratory viruses.*
“Spike” proteins on the surface of these viruses that meet VIRALEZE™ are trapped by astodrimer sodium. This interaction is “virucidal”, meaning that the virus can be trapped and can no longer infect cells. This provides a physical barrier to respiratory viruses. In the nasal cavity, trapped viruses would be cleared naturally through the nasal mucus.
